Incoming GOP Freshman Tom Barrett celebrated the bipartisanship from members of Congress after he was able to take over the same office his great grandfather occupied nearly a century ago.

Earlier this week, the Republican — who flipped Michigan’s 7th Congressional District seat left open from Democrat Elissa Slotkin — sent out a letter to his new colleagues ahead of the freshmen lottery held in Congress that determines a new Representative’s office space, The Hill reported.

“I’ve shared with several of you that my great-grandfather, Louis Rabaut from Michigan, served here in Congress and was first elected 90 years ago in 1934,” the letter from Barrett, posted on social media, read.

“He died in office in 1961, long before I was born, so I never had the opportunity to meet him or ask him about his time in Congress, but his legacy is something my whole family is very proud of,” it added, noting that his family member occupied three different spaces in the Longworth House Office building.

“If one or more of them become available I would deeply appreciate it if you could afford me the opportunity to select one of them,” Barrett’s letter continued. “Perhaps 90 years from now one of your descendants will be asking their colleagues to hold your office available for them to occupy.”

A while later, Barrett confirmed he had indeed gotten one of the spaces and was very appreciative to his colleagues.

“We got it! I appreciate everyone who followed along and showed their support,” Barrett wrote on X.

“Thank you to my Freshmen colleagues, Republicans AND Democrats, who were kind enough to allow me to select the office once occupied by my great grandfather,” he added.

Hours earlier Barrett shared a photo on his X account talking about his experience at orientation.

“As New Member Orientation comes to a close, I wanted to congratulate my friend and future colleague, @lisaforcongress, on becoming Chair of the House Republican Conference,” the Congressmen-elect wrote. “She will be a fierce leader for the @HouseGOP and I look forward to working with her to return meaningful results for our state and our country.”

He also made a post with a picture of the freshmen class on the steps of the Capitol that read, “Freshman class photo of the 119th Congress.”
